High Risk OB:
Each of our ob/gyn specialist physicians are trained in high-risk obstetric care. Many of our high-risk ob patients self-refer to our ob/gyn physicians, and other patients are referred by family practice physicians, or other mid-level providers.
Perinatology Services:
Western Ob/Gyn and Ridgeview Medical Center provide perinatology services for patients who need more extensive ultrasound services. A Perinatologist from the Minnesota Perinatal Center visits Ridgeview Medical Place « next door to Western's Waconia office - the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Nationally accredited and certified ultrasonographers from Western work with the perinatologists to provide Level II ultrasound services so patients can receive this special care close to home.
Amniocentesis:
During your pregnancy your provider may suggest that you receive an amniocentesis, and if you choose to have this procedure performed, one of our specially trained physicians will perform the procedure. An amniocentesis is a test that may detect an abnormality of the fetus.
What is the "First OB" Visit?
Your initial OB visit will consist of a full comprehensive exam and is provided by one of our mid-level providers (a certified nurse practitioner or a certified nurse midwife). The exam will include lab work, as well as thorough education on a variety of pregnancy issues. You can expect your First Ob examination to be approximately 1 hour in length.
Laboratory Tests: Following your First OB exam, other lab tests may be done throughout your pregnancy to verify that you and your baby are healthy. Some of these tests include urinalysis, hemoglobin blood test, glucose tolerance test, and one or more ultrasound scans.
Prenatal Visits: Generally, after your First OB exam, you will be asked to follow up with your health care provider on a monthly basis, up until your eighth month. At this time, visits are recommended on a weekly basis. This schedule is a guideline and your health care provider may ask to see you more often, or less often, depending on your and your baby's health status.
